Computing in Neocortical Microcircuits

Abstract

The talk will first describe an overview of the structural design of the neocortical microcircuit, how microcircuits are coupled to other microcircuits and the rest of the brain. The computations that are thought to occur at various stages, from when information arrives until it exists, will be discussed and the building blocks for these computations will be described. The talk will end with a discussion of the task-specific vs the generic computation debate as the two competing paradigms for computations in the microcircuit.
